sed : but/ and indeed, what is more.
non : not.
sicut : as, just as, as it were, (+verb in subj.) just as if.
pater : patris : father.
suus : sua : suum : (refl. poss. adj.) his, her, its, their own.
enim : in fact, truly, indeed.
enim : for, in fact, truly (may often be omitted).
quas : (fem. pl. acc.) the fates, against whom he struggled.
